Mobile Medical Disaster Relief, Inc. was formed in 2005 as an outgrowth of the Vanderpool’s life work of spreading the Gospel by providing for the needs of the extreme poor. In 2005, we worked in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, bringing in medical supplies and working in a clinic in Biloxi, MS, monthly. Working in many countries globally, Mobile Medical Disaster Relief has provided clean water, nutritional support, and medical care to the world’s most vulnerable people. As the organization matured, the name was changed to LiveBeyond (dba) to reflect both the expansion of the variety of programs and the focus on helping the American Church realize its destiny by spreading the Gospel and sharing its riches with the poor.
Arriving in Haiti two days after the January 12, 2010 earthquake and setting up a large hospital, LiveBeyond worked tirelessly, providing surgical services to those Haitians injured in the earthquake. We maintained a permanent presence in Haiti by bringing in medical teams each month for a week for three years. In May of 2013, we sold our possessions and permanently moved to our base in Thomazeau, Haiti.
LiveBeyond presently brings about 700 Americans to our 63-acre base each year to provide a relevant missions experience for them and excellent medical, dental and educational services to the Haitians. Our programs provide for the spiritual needs of the people through our church and pastor training programs and their physical needs by providing comprehensive care to hundreds of pregnant women, malnourished children and the sick through our Maternal Health Program, Kè Pou Ti Moun Program and clinic. Our School Program provides education to 350 children and our ESL and Literacy Programs provide advancement possibilities to adults. The needs of the mentally and physically disabled are met through the Johnny’s Kids Program.
We have developed a Demonstration Farm in conjunction with Texas A&M Agriculture Department to educate area farmers in relevant improved farming techniques. We are addressing the crushing unemployment rate by creating sustainable jobs for the people in our area. Through our Community Development Program, we are providing superior quality mortgaged homes that promote self-sufficiency and self-worth. Presently, we are providing nutritional support to 111,000 malnourished children and adults monthly.
